SanDisk has brought a new USB-C flash drive to India that packs up to 1TB storage into a tiny plug-and-forget design for laptops and tablets. The company is calling it the world’s smallest 1TB USB-C flash drive, aimed at users who want big storage without carrying bulky hard drives. Prices for the SanDisk Extreme Fit USB-C series start at ₹2,049 and it will be sold exclusively on Flipkart.

For Indian buyers who live on slim laptops with limited internal storage, this tiny drive could work like an always-plugged “external hard disk” without any wires. SanDisk is pitching it to students, professionals and everyday users who juggle photos, videos, office files and projects across devices. The brand is also banking on its app-based backup system to make file management simpler on Windows and Mac.

A tiny drive with 1TB packed in

Western Digital’s SanDisk brand says this Extreme Fit USB-C drive is the world’s smallest 1TB USB-C flash drive, designed to sit almost flush with your device. That “leave-in” design means you can plug it into a laptop or tablet and forget it is there, much like a wireless mouse receiver.

It connects via USB-C, so it will work with most modern Windows laptops, MacBooks, Android tablets and other USB-C devices. This is especially useful for ultra-thin machines that now ship with very little built-in storage but plenty of USB-C ports.

Speeds and performance: good for everyday, light for heavy creators

SanDisk claims read speeds of up to 400MB/s on the 128GB to 1TB variants, while the 64GB model goes up to 300MB/s. In simple terms, that should be fast enough for quickly copying large office files, movies or photo folders, and for running presentations or media directly from the drive.

However, serious video editors or 4K content creators may still prefer high-end SSDs for sustained heavy workloads. This drive feels more like a super-compact everyday backup and carry solution, not a full replacement for pro-grade external SSDs.

Storage options and India prices

SanDisk is offering the Extreme Fit USB-C flash drive in five capacities for India.

Here’s a quick look at the line-up:

Storage variantIndia price (MRP)Claimed read speed
64GB₹2,049Up to 300MB/s
128GB₹2,799Up to 400MB/s
256GB₹4,899Up to 400MB/s
512GB₹4,999Up to 400MB/s
1TB₹17,299Up to 400MB/s

All variants will be available exclusively on Flipkart in India, at least at launch. Actual selling prices are likely to see discounts over time, especially during sales, which could make the mid-range capacities more attractive to students and first-time buyers.

Who is SanDisk targeting?

SanDisk’s pitch is clearly focused on people who are always on the move with slim devices. Tareq Husseini, Senior Director, Sales, IMEA at SanDisk, said many users now carry thin laptops and tablets and need storage that “fits perfectly and inconspicuously into their on-the-go lifestyles.”

The drive is also designed to work with the SanDisk Memory Zone app for Windows and Mac, which helps users back up and restore files more easily. For Indian users who are not very comfortable managing folders and drives manually, app-based backup could be a big plus, especially for photos, college projects and office work.

Why this matters for Indian buyers

For Indian laptop users who regularly see “storage almost full” warnings, this product offers a simple way to expand space without upgrading the device. With remote work, online classes and OTT content all competing for storage, a small USB-C drive that can stay plugged in is a practical solution.

At the same time, buyers need to compare this with portable SSDs, which may offer faster performance or better value per GB during offers, especially for heavy creative workloads. Still, for many everyday users, the mix of tiny size, USB-C convenience and multiple capacity options makes the SanDisk Extreme Fit USB-C a straightforward plug-and-play upgrade.
